WORKERS MEMORIAL DAY COMMUNITY OBSERVANCES: On Friday, April 26th, President Bill
Samples and UAW-CAP President Jim Slone will be speaking at Workers Memorial
Day services being held at the two local memorial sites. Services will be held
at the old courthouse in Elyria at 11:30 AM and at Lorain City Hall at 4:30 PM
in remembrance of those workers who have suffered illness, injury or who have
died on the job and to renew the fight for workplace safety. We ask active and
retired members to attend either one or both of the events if they are able.
OBSERVANCE AT OHIO ASSEMBLY PLANT: Workers Memorial Day will be observed by two
one-minute moments of silence, one at 7:00 AM and one at 7:00 PM. Security will
make an announcement over the PA system. Please join with your co-workers in
observing the moment of silence to honor our brothers and sisters who have lost
their lives due to occupational-related incidents. A Workers Memorial Video is
currently being aired on the FCN monitors. Posters advertising the Workers
Memorial Day have been posted around the plant. HR/Security will get on each
radio channel one hour before the moments of silence as a reminder, and flags
will be flown at half-mast.
UNIT 1 (OHAP): UAW-FORD
ROUGE POWERHOUSE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Applications are being accepted
for dependent children of full time active UAW-represented Ford employees.
Applications and complete details are available at the union hall or at the
scholarship web site: http://uawford.org/scholarships/. The application deadline is May 15th.
NEXT PAID HOLIDAY –
MEMORIAL DAY: MONDAY, MAY 27TH: Unit 1 OHAP: You
must work Tuesday (the day after the holiday) or have a proper excuse to be
paid holiday pay. Unit 3 Leadec: Members
must work their regularly scheduled shift immediately prior to and their
regularly scheduled shift following the holiday. Unit 4 Source Providers: To be eligible for holiday pay, an
employee must work their regularly scheduled work day both preceding and
following the holiday. Unit 5 Detroit
Chassis: Employees must work on the nearest scheduled workday, both
preceding and following the holiday.
UNIT 1 (OHAP): UAW-Ford
$1,500.00 Community Engagement Scholarship for Dependent Children assists UAW employees with college tuition costs for
their dependent children and promotes community involvement by requiring the
dependent to perform 8 hours of volunteer service at a 501(c)(3) non-profit
can be accepted only for courses that began after January 1, 2018 and the
application deadline is June 1, 2019. For classes that began after
January 1, 2019, the deadline is June 1, 2020. Please visit www.uawford.org/scholarships for further details and to

UAW FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP:
Applications are available at the union hall and at uawlocal2000.org for the
2013 Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Scholarship being held at the UAW
Education Center at Black Lake in Onaway, Michigan on the week of July 21-26. A
$50.00 refundable registration fee must be submitted with the application.
Checks must be made payable to “UBE, Inc.” Members must use vacation time,
personal time or take a union leave of absence to attend. The deadline is Friday,
LORAIN COUNTY UAW-CAP MEETING will be on Thursday, May
2nd at 6:00 PM at UAW Local 2000 union hall.
SUMMER VACATION SHUTDOWN is only one week this
year, which is the week of July 1st.
LOCAL 2000 VOLUNTEERS
ARE NEEDED FOR THE ANNUAL LABOR DAY FAMILY CELEBRATION on Sunday, September 1st: Volunteers
are needed for setting up, working the food line and cleaning up, all on the
day of the event. The first 50 volunteers will receive a free commemorative
t-shirt. If you are interested in volunteering for this year’s event, please
contact Joe at 440.934.3151, extension 2 to sign up and give Joe your t-shirt
size. The deadline for signing up to
volunteer and receiving a commemorative t-shirt is Wednesday, June 26th.
Please see Linda at the union hall to donate $5 to the event and have your
name published in the event program as an individual sponsor. The $5
sponsorships help to fund the festival.
Executive Board action following the scheduled meeting for April in which there
wasn’t a quorum, the next General Membership Meeting is Sunday, May 5th
at 2:30 PM at UAW Local 2000, 3151 Abbe Road,
Sheffield Village. The meeting was moved forward a week due to Mother’s Day
falling on the regularly scheduled meeting day. Please attend and be informed.
